Arch
At the intersection of art and architecture, Débora also develops glass coverings for walls and furniture, which serve as decorative and structural elements — ideal for projects that seek aesthetic innovation and environmental responsibility. These coverings transform surfaces into glassy narratives, where waste gains new life with sophistication and purpose. Each creation is the result of a rigorous technical process and a sensitive vision, connecting sustainability, beauty and social transformation.
Architecture and Urbanism: Glass Coating
Since 1984, Debora Muszkat has been researching ways to reuse glass — a 100% recyclable and surprisingly versatile material. Over the years, she has explored countless possibilities, combining art, design and sustainability. In 2011, she began using glass as a covering, experimenting with the technique on the walls and floors of the garden of her studio in São Paulo. From then on, this language became a permanent part of her artistic production. In 2019, now living between Brazil and Denmark, Debora also began transforming the garden of her home in northern Europe, using reclaimed glass as a poetic and functional raw material.
That same year, during the pandemic, she was invited by the community leader of Paraisópolis to take her technique to the favela. The mission: to cover 600 meters of flooring at the entrance to the central pavilion, forming a large urban mosaic. At a time marked by unemployment and uncertainty, Debora hired 20 residents for 20 days, bringing work, training and inspiration. Since then, the artist has delved deeper into the art of glass coating — which today is similar to contemporary tiling, combining beauty, resistance and social meaning.
