DEBORA MUSZKAT

Frames (2005)

Frames was an exhibition held in 2005 at Art Gallery 32, belonging to the Brazilian Embassy in London, through the Rouanet Law, where she presented the result of a series of various techniques from her field of interest.

Between Movement and Immobility

Debora has always enjoyed exploring different techniques. She was interested in reusing natural materials, as well as glass, in painting, drawing, and even photography. The camera, for example, has been part of her field of research since 1986.
Some of the works were created from footage of personalities from the contemporary art scene, such as Wesley Duke Lee, Tunga, Leda Catunda, Katia Canton, as well as self-portraits by Debora, photos of corpses preserved in formalin taken at the anatomy college, and footage of her niece Paula Muszkat, who was 4 years old at the time.
The subjects and scenes were chosen based on Debora's desire to capture and expose emotions contained in "living" expressions, almost invisible to the naked eye, which vanish in the blink of an eye or a yawn, but become strongly present when freezing a moving image, here compared with images frozen by the very state of rigidity of death.
At the time, Debora explored painting on various surfaces, such as animal skins, fabrics, or canvases.
